Corpo Volta began as an invitation from Sophie Orton and her sisters – collectively known as Ortonandon. The group invited local artists friends to perform a 5 minute intervention with an audience in a secret location in Edinburgh in December 2014. The audience were instructed to dress warm and bring a cushion to sit on. I AM DADA, the Orton's mother, also an artist, compered the evening spinning the crowd around the vaults to take part in the next incident. The first Corpo Volta happening took place up a close, in the dimly lit Niddry Street Vaults with over 20 short acts performing songs, skits, movement based routines, improvised poems and other occurrences from fortune telling to fish slapping.
Alongside the sisters, 3 Glasgow based artists have been involved in bringing the event to their home city. The organising group are now planning future get togethers and hope to bring Corpo Volta to life again in the near future.
